Schools are a hot mess

Plans for three separate educational programs for the 2020-2021 school year were presented to our board for consideration. Although operating three different programs in the same year will be a stretch, we want all families, students, and staff to feel safe and supported.

At our next meeting on June 29, 2020, I will recommend approval of the following three educational programs for the 2020-2021 school year:

Traditional schedule

Five days per week of in-class instruction with class sizes to be determined based on the number of students who elect the hybrid or online learning model from each school.

Hybrid Schedule

  • Two days per week of in-class instruction and three days per week of at-home independent learning, with a maximum of 17 students per day in a class
  • Offered at Riego Creek Elementary, Stoneridge Elementary, and Cooley Middle School with limited availability
  • Placement is dependent upon enrollment numbers
  • Instruction provided by RCSD teachers
  • Families will still receive communication from their school of residence
  • Families to arrange/provide transportation and childcare
  • Guaranteed placement at currently enrolled school for the 2021-2022 school year

Champions Academy

  • Full-time online learning program from home.
  • Instruction provided by RCSD teachers
  • Standards-based daily instruction
  • Whole group and small group instruction
  • Personalized instruction with teacher meeting time
  • Includes asynchronous and synchronous personalized learning
  • Families will still receive communication from their school of residence
  • Guaranteed placement at currently enrolled school for the 2021-2022 school year

On July 1, 2020, parents will receive information about each Board-approved program, along with a link to make a selection.
